Claire/Axl's Awesome Portfolio YAY

about me

Hi!hiii

I'm Claire, though I also go by Axl! Either name works, I respond to both.
I use both he/him and she/her pronouns, you can refer to me with either. Or both! I can't stop you.

I like all sorts of games, though I'm very drawn to puzzle games, and I think it'd be fun to make one someday.
Some of my current favourites are Mindhack, Psychonauts, Professor Layton, Pokémon, Splatoon and Lobotomy Corporation.

I'm not so much drawn to specific genres as I am to character-driven stories. So long as I love the story, I'll love the game!
Video games are my favourite form of storytelling, and making one of my own has been a dream of mine for a long time :]

I'm a self-taught artist who primarily makes 2D digital artwork.
I like character design and narrative writing, and I also dabble in website coding!

Here's some examples of my work:

character designs

These are some character designs I've created for the 2025-2026 Game Art course, as well as characters for my game, "My Partner is a Monster".
I greatly enjoy drawing and designing non-human characters, although I often illustrate humans as well.
My style lends itself to more cartoony and exaggerated designs.

prop designs

These are some props I designed for last year's course as well.
I do much more character artwork than that of objects and environments, although I am capable of creating concepts for such as well.

pixel stuff

I've been able to imitate pixel artwork fairly well in my main digital art program, ibisPaintX,
albeit I've only just recently started working with Aseprite for pixels and spritework.

3d stuff

Last year, I started learning how to model things in Maya.
I'm still very new to the medium and am very inexperienced when it comes to texturing and rigging,
and haven't modelled much outside of school, but I'd like to get better at it because its really cool.

coding stuff

During the summer of 2026, I created and published my first video game; "My Partner is a Monster" with TyranoBuilder.
I consider it a work in progress, as I'd still like to update the plot and artwork, but as of now it's free to play on itch.io.

Speaking of my games, I've also been working on and off on a website for my game concept; "Diagnostech"!
It too is a work in progress, yet it's taught me a lot about HTML and CSS coding, which I consider myself an ameteur in.

Something else I coded is the webpage you're reading right now!

animations

Along with my digital illustrations, I occassionally animate on my iPad!
I can do 2D frame-by-frame animation.
I've used Flipaclip for a while, though I've also used Toonsquid, which I'd like to use more of.

illustrations

I mostly make character illustrations, though I've been beginning to experiment with environmental design.
I am normally a very slow artist, and have been learning new techniques to draw faster so I have time to make even more cool stuff.
When it comes down to it, I can get things done pretty quickly with a hard deadline.
